Our P6 and P7 boys played two matches against St Mary's Newcastle today in the Primary Schools League. Both teams came out on top with some scintillating football played in perfect conditions. We were very proud of the skills shown in both games with high catching, fantastic tackling, fearless blocking and inspirational score taking to the fore. Defending of the highest quality was on view with special mention to Tieran Dornan, Liam O'Neill, Cormac Watson, Ethan Ross and Marty Steele. On the few occasions when St Marys did break through, our goalkeepers Nathan Owens and Marc Holbrook-Symington were in inspired form. Mid-field was to dominant in both games with Tiernan Connolly and Dara Rodgers in particular showing superb ability and score taking while up front Alex McAlinden gave an exhibition of score taking and passing from all angles ably assisted by the tigerish Ruairi King, Caolum Brannigan and Rhys Hammond. Sean O'Neill, Daragh Cluskey, Donagh Keary and Nathan Garland all showed why football is in safe hands in St Malachy's in the future. Daniel Rice, Jack Mc Murrough and Mark Mc Aleenan showed confidence on the ball throughout the game and ensured their team continued to pass the ball with pace and accuracy right to the final whistle. Well done to all on a tremendously sporting and well disciplined performance. The boys wore their school jersey with pride and encouraged one another throughout showing the wonderful spirit of togetherness that exists in all our teams.
